Artist's statement: I like to go outside.
I enjoy painting outdoors, but I do some studio work as well. I like my brushwork lively and I gravitate toward high chroma palettes. I avoid line and focus on expressing the subject through value and color variation. I do not attempt to create a perfect visual record. Rather, I try to create an emotionally charged record of who I am as I reach toward my subject. I approach painting in the same way I approach trout; moving slowly, in a state of high expectation.
When I was studying Information Science at the University of Michigan, I had the opportunity to learn bookbinding in the conservation lab run by Jim Craven, a master Bookbinder. I have continued to bind in my spare time. I bind mostly to furnish my own bookshelves, but I have also completed a few commissions for family and friends.
Food is the finest art. I enjoy sharing quality food with friends and family and believe that we can do better as a society managing our food systems.
I serve as Archivist for the Little Traverse Historical Society and do contract work for private clients in the winter months when its too cold to enjoy being outdoors. Visit my Archives CV for details.
I love to flyfish, canoe, hike, and cross-country ski. My wife and I are beginning farmers and are looking forward to engaging our community and contributing to a healthy local food economy. Please feel free to get in touch if you find we share any creative interests.
